20V 'Blacktop' Project - Day 14-16

Started the fun task of cleaning everything up today. I also replaced the hoses on the engine while it is on the stand.

Front of engine with timing belt & water pump removed. And then with the front prepped and awaiting a new timing belt. The engine mount has been replaced with that from the 16V engine.

Intake side cleaned and ready to go. The engine hook will be removed once the engine is fitted to the car. The left manifold brace will be modified as well to give it a cleaner look.

Can see the new hose replaced on the waterpump.

The 20V has a fairly large alternator bracket which contains an idle pulley. To save some weight and space, use the bracket from the 16V engine. On the Silvertops it is a direct fit. On the Blacktops, the bolt hole in the oil pump where the hydraulic tensioner mounts, is in the way. So you will need to cut some room on the bracket. (Notice the allen wrench holding the tensioner in place, since I removed the timing belt.)

For reference: here's a comparison of the 20V and 16V water pumps:

Here's the engine/tranny mounts ready to go back in the car. The 2 blue ones have been filled with 95 Shore A urethane by Kirk Hutcherson (kirkosaurus on the MR2 message board).
